WORKING EMERGENTLY

WITH TEAMS

FOR THE PRACTICE AND ART OF

WORKING WITH WHAT REALLY MATTERS

Deepen your capacity to work with what is actually happening, in the room, in the system, and in yourself, moment by moment.

In a world of increasing complexity, uncertainty, and pressure for results, many experienced team practitioners find themselves questioning whether familiar models, tools, and prescribed approaches are still sufficient.

Working Emergently is an advanced practice course for practitioners who sense that what truly makes a difference in teams and systems cannot be fully planned in advance, diagnosed upfront, or delivered through linear change programmes.

This course invites you to deepen your capacity to work with what is actually happening, in the room, in the system, and in yourself, moment by moment.

WHY THIS PROGRAMME, WHY NOW

Many team coaches, consultants, and change practitioners have reached a point where they can competently draw on theory, frameworks, and models, yet still feel a gap between what they know and the impact they want to have.

For many practitioners, the challenge lies in working effectively in conditions of ambiguity, relational complexity, power dynamics, and competing demands, and in bringing the work impactfully into the here and now experience of the team.

Working Emergently responds to this moment. It supports team practitioners who are ready to move beyond prescribed approaches and to work with complexity as it is, rather than as we wish it to be.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY WORKING EMERGENTLY

Working emergently is not a technique or a set of tools. It is a lens, a way of meaning making, a philosophical stance, and a practice.

An emergent approach privileges awareness over diagnosis, contact over control, and responsiveness over prescription. It involves working with what is alive, figural, and unfolding in the system, rather than imposing predefined agendas or outcomes.

In emergent practice, the practitioner becomes a central instrument of the work. This programme focuses on developing that capacity in practice, not as an abstract idea, but as a lived way of working with teams and systems.

WHO THIS PROGRAMME IS FOR (AND WHO IT IS NOT)

Working Emergently is relevant for:

  • Experienced practitioners and team coaches

  • Graduates of diploma level team coaching programmes, including Team Coaching Studio and other providers

  • Coaches, consultants, OD, HR, and change practitioners working in complex organisational contexts

  • People seeking depth, integration, and practice rather than accreditation

This course is not for those seeking a diagnostic or prescribed approach that prioritises theory, content, models, tools, or exercises designed primarily to satisfy the needs of the intervenor.

  • "Team Coaching Studio is "that" group of inspiring thinkers and practitioners who you can come study with and then go forth to lead and inspire any team or group. A "trusted and inspiring methodology and faculty. "

    – Dorothy Simminovitch

WHAT YOU WILL DEVELOP

Through the programme, you will strengthen your capacity to:

  • Work without over structuring or prematurely narrowing the field

  • Use yourself more consciously as an instrument of the work

  • Discern when to intervene and when to stay with what is emerging

  • Track patterns, dynamics, and energy in real time

  • Work with greater confidence and steadiness in conditions of uncertainty

HOW THE PROGRAMME WORKS

The course is highly experiential and practice based. Learning takes place through live demonstration, shared inquiry, and working with real material brought by participants.

Sessions include opportunities to observe emergent practice in action, to experiment with your own interventions, and to reflect on what you notice in yourself, others, and the wider system.

The course is designed emergently within a clear and intentional container. There is enough structure to create safety and continuity, while allowing the learning to respond to what is alive and relevant in the group.

THE PROGRAMME ARC

Across six sessions, the course gradually shifts attention from familiar ways of structuring the work towards greater trust in emergence, awareness, and responsiveness.

Participants can expect to explore themes such as:

  • Moving from predefined structure towards emergent pathways

  • Shifting from doing and fixing towards sensing and staying in contact

  • Working less from models and more from what is present in the here and now

  • Developing confidence in moment to moment choice making

The emphasis throughout is on learning through experience and reflection, rather than following a predetermined curriculum.

FACULTY

The course is led by Georgina Woudstra, founder of Team Coaching Studio, with support from Senior Faculty.

The work is held by practitioners with deep experience of working emergently with leadership teams and complex systems, and a strong commitment to reflective and developmental practice.
